the ncaa fails student athletes

Wow. Another day passes and Enes isn't free. However 5 Ohio state players were found guilty of violating ncaa rules and ordered to sit out 5 games. The rub? They are allowed to play in their bcs game because they didn't "receive proper education regarding the rules." It's thr cam newton defense. It's the reggie bush defense. The ncaa has again crippled its credibility. More later.

enes news

The ncaa has basically said that enes will not be freed in 2010. They said that a ruling won't come until 2011. It's bull but that's the ncaa for you. I'm starting to think that he won't be free to play this year but will play next season. If only he were cam newton...

Don't Ask Don't Tell is Repealed

President Obama signed a bill into law this morning that repealed the controversial legislation that banned gays in the military. Right wing pundits have lauded the passage of this bill while people on the left have rejoiced in its passage. Part of what I intend to do on this blog is to represent the views of the majority of Americans- the middle ground.

As a moderate I too view the passage of this bill as a great day for this country. I have NO PROBLEM with a bill that allows MORE people to serve in our armed forces. It takes a special "something" to want to serve in our armed forces. Why should CITIZENS of this country be forced by law to HIDE who they are? We are asking them to DIE for their country and to live a lie.

Unit cohesion is a huge part of the military experience. Most of the people I have talked to who serve or have served already know who is gay and who is not. Most don't seem to have a problem with it. Some argue that "well if most don't have a problem with it, why repeal it?" The answer is simple- the repeal allows them to keep their job!

This country was founded on freedom. Why abbreviate freedom for some people? Today's ruling is MONUMENTAL for this country. We should all be proud today.

Kentucky V Winthrop

Winthrop (5-6, 1-1 Big South) @ 14 Kentucky (8-2, 0-0 SEC)

The Cats are back in action Wednesday afternoon after a few days off. Finals are over, the kids are gone, and Christmas is looming. This makes the Winthrop game a little dangerous.

Winthrop
Conference: Big South
Best Win: @ Wake Forest, Jacksonville (Beat Florida, Auburn)
Worst Loss: Hampton
Key Losses: Charlotte (Beat Tennessee), VCU
Winthrop is your typical mid major team. They don't overpower with any talent. They are a talented team, but they won't overwhelm you. The one thing that might, MIGHT, hurt the Cats is free throw shooting. They shoot 69% from the charity stripe and we all know Kentucky's ability to collect stupid fouls.

Kentucky
Conference: SEC
Best Win: Washington
Worst Loss: UConn
Key Loss: @ UNC by 1 (4 players fouled out)
Kentucky shoots the 3 ball better than they did a year ago. The turnovers aren't that big of an issues. Kentucky ranks 13th in the nation in turnovers which is pretty good considering its a frosh team.

Key to the game:
Kentucky needs to limit its fouling and pray we get decent refs. Kentucky should dispatch Winthrop fairly easily. I look for the halftime score to be close before the Cats take care of business.

Winthrop 65 Kentucky 82

It's Been A While

Whew! It has certainly been a long, long, long time! A lot has happened (both in my life and in the world). I am making an effort to be more religious in updating this blog.

For the news...

Kentucky played MSVSU over the weekend and crushed Sean Wood's Delta Devils at Rupp Arena. The game was quite possibly the worst thing you could have watched on a Saturday afternoon. With that said.... the last 6 minutes of that game was quite the opposite. Coach Cal got ejected after being T'd up twice in just a few seconds. It was Coach Cal's first ejection since 1996. Nothing to get worked up about. The boys needed some inspiring, and the ejection did the trick.

Enes is still not freed. First off- Enes Kanter: Turkish basketball player that wanted to be an amateur but was cursed by a European system that fosters professionalism. Anyway, Enes is not free yet. We "may" know something before Christmas. Will it be a Christmas miracle?

The Cats play Pitt in Birmingham. Welp. Yeah. Go Cats?

Cam Newton- Sleezy. Go Oregon go!!

The GOP: They are back? They won back the house which I thought would be a long shot. The Tea Party certainly has fundraising momentum. However, do they have actual power? We shall see. Oh. We elected Rand Paul. Yeah... great.

Lots to get to that's for sure. For now, this blog is BACK.
